Turn on accessibility

You can make FydeOS devices easier to use by turning on the accessibility features that best meet your needs.

Find accessibility features

  1. Select the time in the lower right corner, or press Alt + Shift + s.
  2. Click the “Settings” icon.
  3. Click “Advanced” at the bottom.
  4. Under the “Accessibility” option, click “Manage Accessibility”.

Turn on a feature

Choose the accessibility features you want to use:

  • Text-to-speech: turn on screen reader or on-demand reading function, etc.
  • Display: Turn on the high-contrast mode or magnifying glass, or change the screen resolution or text size, etc.
  • Keyboard and text input: turn on sticky keys, on-screen keyboard, highlighting, keyboard repetition rate, word prediction, etc.
  • Mouse and touchpad: Turn on automatic click, tap and drag, cursor highlighting, change the size of the cursor, etc.
  • Audio: Play all sounds on all audio devices at the same time, play instruction audio at startup, etc.

Use voice to enter text

Most locations where you can enter content support using voice to enter text. You can even add commonly used punctuation marks, just say “comma”, “period”, “question mark” or “exclamation mark” to add.

  1. Select the time in the lower right corner, or press Alt + Shift + s.
  2. Click the “Settings” icon.
  3. Click “Advanced” at the bottom.
  4. Under the “Accessibility” option, click “Manage Accessibility”.
  5. Under the “Keyboard and text input” option, turn on “Enable voice input (speak to input)”.
  6. Tap or click where you want to enter.
  7. Select the “Read Aloud” icon or press ❖ / ⌘ + d at the same time.
  8. Say what you want to enter.

Tap and drag objects with your finger

  1. Select the time in the lower right corner, or press Alt + Shift + s.
  2. Click the “Settings” icon.
  3. Click “Advanced” at the bottom.
  4. Under the “Accessibility” option, click “Manage Accessibility”.
  5. Under the “Mouse and Trackpad” option, click “Open Mouse and Trackpad Device Settings”.
  6. Turn on “Enable Click and Drag” and “Enable Click and Click”.

To use the press-to-click feature, double-tap and hold the object, and then drag the object.

Automatically click objects

  1. Select the time in the lower right corner, or press Alt + Shift + s.
  2. Click the “Settings” icon.
  3. Click “Advanced” at the bottom.
  4. Under the “Accessibility” option, click “Manage Accessibility”.
  5. Under the “Mouse and Trackpad” option, turn on “Automatically click when the mouse pointer stops”.
  6. In the “Delay before clicking” drop-down list, select how long you want the FydeOS device to pause before clicking.

To click without pressing the mouse or trackpad, hover over the object you want to click.

Use keyboard shortcuts (press one key at a time)

  1. Select the time in the lower right corner, or press Alt + Shift + s.
  2. Click the “Settings” icon.
  3. Click “Advanced” at the bottom.
  4. Under the “Accessibility” option, click “Manage Accessibility”.
  5. To perform keyboard shortcuts by sequentially pressing keys, open “Enable Sticky Keys” under “Keyboard”.

To use sticky keys, press any key that opens the keyboard shortcut: ❖ / ⌘, Shift, Alt, or Ctrl key.

  • To hold down a key until you complete the keyboard shortcut, press the key twice.
  • To release a key, press the key again.
